A prominent legal practitioner in Ondo, Chief Tolu Babaleye, has strongly condemned the alleged abduction and murder of two undergraduates of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
The News Agency of Nigeria( NAN) reports that the deceased, including Mr Abah Friday, 25, and Miss Okah Eloho, 19, were reported missing on June 20.
The Ondo Police Command, on Wednesday, paraded three suspects, in connection with the abduction and murder of the students.
One of the suspects, Mr Oladele Femi, also known as Tallex, was said to be Friday’s landlord.
In a statement issued to newsmen in Akure on Friday, Babaleye, who is also a community leader in Akungba, described the crime as “a betrayal of trust and dark stain on Akungba’s peaceful reputation”.
He stated: “This heinous act is disgraceful and evil.
“There can be no justification for such wickedness.”
He commended the swift response of the police, particularly the Commissioner of Police, the Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the Akungba Divisional Police Officer.
Babaleye urged the police authorities to ensure that the perpetrators faced the full weight of the law, adding that “justice must be seen to be done”, to deter future crimes.
He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and the AAUA community.
He pledged to collaborate with the police and other security agencies to bolster security in Akungba and assured the students, parents, and residents of their safety in the community.
“We will not allow evil elements to destroy the sanctity and safety of our community.
“Akungba must remain a sanctuary for learning, not a hotspot for terror,” Babaleye declared.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims.
