Operatives from the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 33 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud.
The arrests were made in a sting operation targeting their hideouts in the Iwofe and Ogboro areas of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The operation was based on credible intelligence linking the suspects to various forms of cybercrime.
According to the EFCC, the individuals were believed to be involved in internet fraud schemes, which have become increasingly sophisticated and widespread across the region.
During the raid, the EFCC recovered several incriminating items, including multiple mobile devices, laptops, and two cars believed to have been used in the commission of fraudulent activities.
In addition, operatives seized boxes containing counterfeit U.S. dollar bills, alongside forged stamps of reputable organizations such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Nigerian Customs, airport clearance, and international courier services like DHL and FedEx.
The presence of these counterfeit items suggests the suspects were involved in a wide array of fraudulent activities, ranging from currency counterfeiting to identity forgery, which they likely used to deceive their victims both locally and internationally.

The EFCC has stated that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigations are concluded.
This arrest is part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on cybercrime, which has been on the rise in recent years, particularly among young people in Nigeria.
The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to rooting out financial crimes in the country, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to relevant authorities.
The successful operation serves as a reminder of the agency’s resolve to pursue justice and hold offenders accountable, regardless of their methods or networks.
