The Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a lawyer, Steve Adamu, before Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court on a one-count charge bordering on giving false information.

According to the charge, Adamu allegedly provided the Commission with information he knew to be false on September 15, 2022, leading the EFCC to open an investigation based on his petition.

The offence contravenes Section 16(1) of the EFCC Establishment Act, 2004 and is punishable under Section 16(2) of the same Act.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. Following his plea, prosecution counsel, M.E. Eimonye, requested a date for trial, while the defence counsel applied for bail.

Justice Khobo ordered that Adamu be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to December 20, 2025, for hearing of the bail application.

Adamu’s arraignment followed an EFCC investigation triggered by his petition accusing his landlord of possessing expensive cars and developing properties without a clear source of income.
