Office of Edo State Deputy Governor has announced the postponement of staff members Party earlier slated for tomorrow, Monday, October 2, 2023.
lndependence Day Party and Awards for staff members and their immediate family members is an annual event held by the Edo State second family to fete staff members and their family members.
The Shaibus also take the opportunity to honour members of staff who distinguished themselves in the course of the year.
The postponement, which is at the instance of the Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu, was predicated on the unfortunate petrol tanker inferno which occurred on Sunday, October 1, at Ologbo, on the Benin-Warri Express Road, resulting in loss of numerous lives.
According to Shaibu: “l feel a deep sense of personal loss on account of the unfortunate petrol tanker inferno which occurred today in which many of our citizens lost their lives.
“As a responsible citizen and public officer, l place so much value on the sanctity of human lives. My sympathy goes out to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones and breadwinners in the incident.
“We cannot be celebrating and partying when our dear State is in mourning mood over the irreparable loss of our beloved brothers and sisters.
“Consequently, l hereby direct the postponement of the Independence Day and Award Party For Staff and family members of the Office of the Deputy Governor with immediate effect.”
Recall that since he assumed office as Deputy Governor of Edo State, Shaibu and wife, Maryann Philip-Shaibu, have consistently hosted staff members and their family members to an annual Independence Day and Award Party in commemoration of Nigeria’s attainment of political sovereignty on October 1, 1960.
The occasion has always afforded staff members of Office of the Deputy Governor to unwind and socialize with the second family in an atmosphere of fun and ceremony.
No new date has been fixed for the party.
