The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the Federal High Court’s judgement on its governorship primary election did not affect the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming governorship election in the state, Dr Asue Ighodalo

The PDP said Ighodalo remained the party’s governorship candidate in the state.

The PDP Chairman in Edo State, Dr Tony Aziegbemi, who made this known in Benin, on Thursday, July 4, 2024, said that Ighodalo’s candidature for the September 21 election remained intact.

Aziegbemi said: “The PDP is aware that certain elements who are scared of the soaring popularity of our candidate are going about peddling rumours that Ighodalo’s candidature has been nullified.

“Let it be on record that Ighodalo is the PDP flag-bearer for the 2024 governorship election in Edo State.”

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, voided the PDP primary election conducted on February 22.

The judgement was voided on the grounds that the 378 delegates who were supposed to vote at the primaries were unlawfully excluded by the PDP.
