“For those still smarting from the economic hardship of 2024, we pray that the New Year-2025- will make a significant difference: it will be a wonderful year.

“There will be improvement in all economic indices that will conduce to improved purchasing power and enhanced standard of living. It is our wish that a vast majority of Nigerians will be empowered to trump the high cost of living crisis that rendered them almost, if not prostrate in 2024.”

Above statements approximate the positions of the management and staff members of THE CONCLAVE online newspaper as they prayed for their esteemed readers and Nigerians.

The CONCLAVE Board of Editors, which articulated the positions on behalf of the management and staff members, stated that ” having just survived what was close to annus horribilis, we can only wish that 2025 will be for all of us annus mirabilis.”

The board as a backgrounder referred to some resources to provide some explication: “Annus mirabilis is a Latin phrase that means “wonderful year,” “marvellous year,” or “miraculous year”. It’s used by writers and historians to describe a year that was notable or remarkable.

“The phrase is most commonly associated with the year 1666, which was marked by the Great Plague and the Great Fire of London.

“However, 1666 also saw many positive scientific achievements, and the year itself is unique in Roman numerals.

“It’s the only year that can be written as MDCLXVI, which contains every Roman numeral from I to M once, in decreasing order of value.

“British poet John Dryden was one of the first to use the phrase in an English context, titling his 1667 poetic review of 1666 Annus Mirabilis. The poem is structured in 304 quatrains, each with ten syllables and an abab rhyme scheme.

“The phrase can also be used to describe other years that were notable in some way, such as 1969, when humans first landed on the moon.

“The opposite of annus mirabilis is annus horribilis, which means ‘horrible year.'”

The management and staff members of THE CONCLAVE fervently wish that 2025 would be a wonderful year for Nigeria and Nigerians.
