Ahead of the official flag-off of electioneering, members of the national campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday stormed the palace of the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II as part of their itinerary.
Led by the national chairman of the the party, Prince Uche Secondus in company with chairman of the national campaign council for PDP governorship election in Edo, Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, they said they were in the state for party assignment and felt obligated to pay homage to the Benin monarch.
Also on the team were the governors of Sokoto and Delta States, Aminu Tambuwal and Ifeanyi Okowa respectively, among others.
As expected, their first port of call was the Palace of the Oba of Benin where the PDP chieftains took turns to pay obeisance to the monarch.

Specifically, Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, PDP national chairman, and Rivers State governor addressed the Benin monarch during which they announced the reason they were in the state: to flag off the PDP governorship campaign in the state.
The consensus was that Edo state was blessed with the personality of its governor, Godwin Obaseki. They said the nation was proud of the governor.
Responding, Oba of Ewuare II thanked his guests for finding time and deeming it fit to visit the palace.

The Oba told his guests that when he visited the governor, in the Government House, he prayed for him that God and the ancestors would grant him a peaceful administration which according to him, had been answered.
The monarch also told them that he was aware of the turbulence and issues before the primary election but that the traditional institution prayed for peace, a prayer which was answered.
Oba Ewuare II enjoined Nigerians to keep praying for the nation’s leaders.
He assured his guests that the palace would continue to pray to God and the ancestors to give the state a governor that would do well for the people and respect the traditional institution.
