Embattled Edo Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would face a long-drawn legal battle if it failed to recognise him as the Party’s authentic standard bearer.

Shaibu was at the PDP National Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday to demand recognition as the duly elected candidate of the ruling party in Edo State.

He also sounded the alarm over alleged impeachment plot by the State Assembly.

Shaibu said that giving him the Certificate of Return for the conducted Primary election was the right thing to do.

Addressing journalists at the party’s Wadata Plaza National Secretariat in Abuja, Shaibu referred to the guidelines released by the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC), which fixed February 28, 2024 for the collection of certificate of return by the winner of the primary.

Hw wonderer why the Party changed the original timetable surreptitiously.

Shaibu stated that the right thing should be done in the PDP in Edo State.

According to him, “reports indicate that someone came yesterday [February 27] and was given the certificate of Return. Well, the court will decide the validity of such a ‘dubious’ arrangement”.

Shaibu, who claimed that reconciliation was not on the table for him because the opposing group was threatening him with impeachment and harassing his supporters, said the court would decide who was the authentic party’s standard bearer unless the certificate of return was given to him.
