Edo 2024: Asue Ighodalo’s campaign billboards “litter” Benin City

Amid partisan frenzy that is presaging electioneering for the guber tickets of all political parties, the campaign billboards of Edo State Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant and former chairman of Sterling Bank Asue Ighodalo, have literally littered Benin City and its environs.

The Billboard dwarfed those of other PDP aspirants jostling for the party ticket.

The dominance of the above-the-line advert via billboards has drawn curious attention to Asue Ighodalo. Some PDP stalwarts in the state now wonder if the forthcoming primary election is a “one man show”

THE CONCLAVE reports that Asue Ighodalo has wormed his way into the hearts of those that matter in Edo PDP, having run ahead of Governor Godwin Obaseki to lobby the leaders if the party who matter even when they have an axe to grid with Obaseki.

The party leaders believe that Obaseki us favouring Asue Ighodalo for the PDP ticket.

Recall that the leaders of the PDP in Edo North and Central Districts recently adopted him as their preferred governorship aspirant ahead of the party primary election.

The PDP Edo Central caucus held a meeting last Thursday at Uromi and adopted Ighodalo

Members of the PDP Central senatorial district after the meeting issued a statement that was jointly signed by its Chairperson, Anthony Okosun, Secretary, Luckson Ogedegbe as well as the Legal Adviser, Paul Itua.

“The caucus in accordance with its functions as spelt out in Section 20 (2), considered the report of Edo Central PDP Special Committee chaired by the National Leader, High Chief Tom Ikimi,” the statement read.

“The following resolutions were adopted: The Senatorial Caucus accepted the recommendation of the Special Committee and adopted Barrister Asue Ighodalo, as the consensus aspirant of the PDP from Edo Central Senatorial District.

“The Senatorial Caucus noted that the adoption of Barrister Asue Ighodalo is without prejudice to the right of any other aspirant to pursue his or her aspiration.”
