As the ECOWAS Parliament Delocalised meeting gets underway in Liberia, the country’s Foreign Minister, Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, has commended ECOWAS Parliament for far-reaching achievements in its over two decades of existence, despite daunting challenges.
Kemayah made this commendation on Tuesday in a remark at the ongoing delocalised meeting on women empowerment.
According to him, the Community Parliament “has over the last two decades committed itself to the holding of fruitful deliberations, adoptions of appropriate protocols, policies and implementation of programmes; aimed at the integration process of our community; as well as the promotion of representative democracy and good governance, peace and conflict resolution, accountability and transparency, rule of law, human rights and gender parity, and the fight against terrorism, poverty, hunger and climate change…”
Kemayah also praised “the unwaivered commitment and resilience of ECOWAS Regional Parliament towards realising the founding principles and overarching objectives of the ECOWAS Community Parliament” irrespective of numerous challenges facing it and our sub-region; including the COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic recession, terrorism and violent extremism, climate change, human and drug trafficking, youth unemployment and crime.
He however urged the Community Parliament to redouble its efforts as it pushes towards more women mainstreaming.
Kemayah took the opportunity to pay tribute to the memory of the late president of Tanzania, John Pombe Joseph Magufuli, and the late Prime Minister of Cote d’Ivoire, Hamed Bakayoko, both of whom he described as illustrious sons of Africa.
