The Nigerian Army has established a digitalised museum in the Federal Capital Territory. The army established a museum many decades ago in Chindits Barracks Zaria, Kaduna State which was co-located with the famous Nigerian Military School Zaria.

However, the Army thought it wise to relocated it to Abuja to make it more accessible to visitors and the public. This is because museums are very important means of preserving history, collective heritage, enhancing unity and sense of belonging. It was eventually moved to its present location and co-located with the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), along Mambilla Barracks, off Murtala Mohammed Highway, Asokoro District, Abuja.

It is instructive to note that at the beginning it was under the command of the NARC, however, it is now an independent unit, but co-located with the NARC.

Determined to take it a top notch higher and to be at par with other developed armies, the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, embarked on the reconstruction and renovation of the museum and then digitalised it.

The project was completed and commissioned by the Chief of Army Staff in a brief but colourful ceremony earlier on Tuesday.

Present at the occasion were Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters, Director General Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Major General G.A Wahab (retd), Corps Commanders, Directors and Staff of both NARC and the Nigerian Army Museum.

The digitalised and interactive Nigerian Army Museum and Archives which is presently headed by Brigadier General Umar Nasir Babangida, is opened to interested persons and it is replete of various artefacts and relics of the activities of the Nigerian Army since its establishment in 1863 to date.
