*Urges social distancing to curb COVID-19 spread
A member of the House of Representatives representing Oredo Federal Constituency and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship hopeful, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, has felicitated with Christian faithful in Edo State at Easter despite the COVID-19 pandemic that does not allow for pomp and ceremony.
In an Easter message that he personally issued, Ogbeide-Ihama said while it was sad that the present COVID-19 situation would not permit the celebration of the annual event as the world was wont to do, it offered an opportunity for deeper insight and meditation on the significance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Accirding to him, “While at first thought, we feel sad that the present situation will not permit us to celebrate this Holy event as we normally would, deeper insight will help us see that the circumstances present a veritable opportunity to meditate on what the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ did for us.
“In John 11:25-26, Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?’
“What this scripture tells us is that through his death and resurrection, he separated us from death and gave us Life.
“As we mark this Easter, maintaining social distancing, let the above scripture strengthen our faith to know that as we play our roles (for faith without works is dead), we, who believe in Christ will not fall to this scourge, but will live to see its end and experience new prosperity and blessings.
“I pray that the blessings of Easter will remain real in our personal lives and bring cleansing to our dear Edo State.
“Once more, I wish you all a blessed Easter.”
