The Direct Trucking Company Drivers Association (DTCDA) has issued a statement regarding the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers’ (NUPENG) threat to go on strike starting Monday, September 8, 2025.

The DTCDA, representing drivers in the transport sector, including those working with major companies like Dangote and MRS, has expressed concerns about the potential impact on the smooth flow of petroleum products in the country.

The DTCDA, in a statement by its national president, Barr. Enoch Kanawa, emphasised that the Nigerian Constitution guaranteed the freedom of association, allowing individuals to choose which organiaation or union they wanted to associate with.

The association said it aimed to promote the welfare of its members, including health, insurance, and pension benefits, particularly post-retirement.

The DTCDA said it supported the deregulation of the downstream sector of the Nigerian economy and the Renewed Hope agenda of the President.

The association said it believed that any action that disrupted the smooth flow of petroleum products in the country was a disservice and should be condemned by all Nigerians and the general public.

■ Call to Action

The DTCDA urged the federal government and its agencies to take necessary measures to prevent any organisation from recruiting members by coercion, which would breach the constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of association, thought, and expression.
