Two members of the Lagos state House of Assembly have been arrested and grilled by the operatives of the Directorate of State Services (DSS) for their role in the impeachment of former speaker of the House, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

Reports said Hon Lanre Afinni, representing Lagos Island 2 and Hon Sylvester Ogunkelu, Epe 2 were invited and grilled for allegedly damaging government property.

However, Afinni was said to have been granted administrative bail on health grounds, while Ogunkelu was being detained by the DSS.

Both were interrogated on Wednesday by investigative officers.

A source was quoted in q report by Daily Trust to have stated that on the day of Obasa’s removal, the then Clerk of the House, Barrister Lekan Onafeko was not in the House and his office was locked.

He added that Hon. Ogunkelu, also known as Sketel, and Hon. Afinni physically led the charge to fetch the mace for the House sitting, and had to destroy the door and some government property to get hold of the mace, which is the symbol of authority of the House.

“It is on these grounds that the operatives invited them. As we speak, Sketel is in detention while Afinni was released due to his health challenges,” the report said.

The State assembly has been in the news since January 13 when Mudashiru Obasa was removed as speaker and replaced with his deputy, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, while he was away in the United States.

Last Saturday, however, Obasa faulted the impeachment process while addressing his supporters at the official residence of the speaker in GRA, Ikeja, and insisted he still remained the speaker until due process was followed.
