Opposition leader Bobi Wine said late Friday night that a group of masked, armed soldiers broke into his home in Magere, assaulted members of his family and isolated his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, as security forces intensified efforts to locate him following the disputed general elections.
In a statement issued during the night, Wine said soldiers forced their way into the residence and beat up family members before separating Barbie Kyagulanyi from others inside the compound.
“Their intentions are unclear,” he said, saying military personnel were still inside the Magere residence at the time of his statement.
Barbie’s associates released a video in which she could be heard confronting the soldiers, asking: “You people, what do you want in our compound?”
The reported raid comes amid a sharp standoff between Wine and the security establishment after Uganda’s army commander Muhoozi Kainerugaba publicly ordered the opposition leader to surrender to police within 48 hours — an ultimatum Wine has rejected, saying he will resurface on his own terms.

The army chief said security forces would continue actively hunting for Bobi, who scored 24% of the presidential vote in the recently-concluded general elections.
Muhoozi claimed Bobi intended to use 2,000 “hooligans” in the election violence, a claim NUP denies.
Bobi and his National Unity Platform (NUP) party have rejected the presidential election results announced by the Electoral Commission, accusing authorities of ballot stuffing, military interference in the vote and intimidation of opposition figures.
The government has denied the allegations, maintaining that the elections were conducted in line with the law and that security operations are aimed at preserving public order.
The incident also follows growing international concern over Uganda’s post-election environment.
Earlier on Friday, the European Union said it regretted pre- and post-election violence and threats, particularly against Bobi Wine, and urged Ugandan authorities to ensure the safety of all political actors.
Security agencies had not issued an immediate public response to Wine’s claims by late Friday night.
