The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismissed a viral Facebook post claiming that its operatives arrested Evangelist Ukpo Daniel for allegedly raising a false alarm about a Fulani herdsmen attack during a crusade in Agboda Village, Nasarawa State.

According to the DSS, the claim was “false and misleading” and appeared to be an attempt to discredit the agency and stir up public tension.

In a statement signed by Deputy Director of Public Relations, Favour Dozie, the DSS clarified that Evangelist Daniel was never invited or arrested by the agency.

His wife, Elizabeth, who originated the post, confirmed that she was with him at the Police Headquarters in Lafia, not in DSS custody.

The DSS warned that such misinformation posed risks to public peace and could interfere with ongoing security operations.

The development comes amid escalating tensions and security challenges in Nigeria, with recent attacks on churches and schools leading to deaths, kidnappings, and widespread fear.

In a related incident, a Catholic bishop in Niger State criticized the Nigerian government for making “no meaningful effort” to rescue over 250 children abducted from a boarding school.

The DSS has urged Nigerians to rely solely on verified sources and official communication channels to curb the spread of disinformation capable of distorting national security matters.

PUBLIC STATEMENT ON MISLEADING FACEBOOK POST

“The Department of State Services (DSS) has noted, with dismay, a false and misleading Facebook Post alleging that, it arrested Evangelist Ukpo Daniel for raising a false alarm in a video claiming that Fulani herdsmen attacked a crusade in Agboda Village, Nasarawa State.

“This claim is incorrect and appears intended to cast the Service in bad light as well as steer public tension.

“For clarity, Evangelist Ukpo Daniel was never invited nor arrested by the DSS. His spouse, Elizabeth, who originated the Post, when contacted, confirmed that she was with him at the Police Headquarters, Lafia.

“Therefore, the Service views such misrepresentations in ways that could inflame tension or disrupt ongoing operations, seriously.

“Consequently, the Service advises the public to depend on verified information and communication channels to stem the spate of disinformation that may be exploited to further distort national security.”
