The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a Special Adviser to Kano State Governor, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, even as the State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje relieved him of his job.
Yakasai’s arrest followed his demand for the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari and governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to increasing insecurity in the country.
On Friday, he had in a series of tweets criticised the Buhari-led administration over the nation’s security challenges, saying “Buhari is insensitive and lacks empathy.”
It was gathered that the governor’s aide was declared missing yesterday evening by his families and friends.
Abubakar Sadiq who is the handler of the Twitter handle and official website of the Kano state government, in a tweet posted on Saturday morning, disclosed that Salihu was with the DSS.
Meanwhile, the secret service has yet to confirm or deny his arrest.
Activist, Aisha Yesufu and others have taken to twitter to demand his release.
Few months ago Salihu was suspended by Governor Ganduje, following a related tweet but was later reinstated following interventions by influential persons in the government.
This is a clear indication that Salihu is a unrepentant rebel in Kano State Government.
In a swift riposte, Governor Ganduje has sacked Salisu from his government.
The sack was contained in a statement by Malam Muhammad Garba, the state’s Commissioner for Information on Saturday in Kano.
Garba said the sack was effective with immediate effect.
Salihu is the son of elder statesman, Tanko Yakasai.
He criticised the President Muhammadu Buhari administration over the spate of insecurity in the North.
Garba said Salihu was sacked because he failed to differentiate between personal and official position, on matters of public concern and, therefore, could not be allowed to continue to serve in a government he never believed in.
Garba warned all political appointees and public servants to guard against statements capable of generating controversies.
He, however, reaffirmed the commitment of Ganduje to the policies and programmes of the Buhari administration.
