IBB honours ex-IGP Mike Okiro as “Promoter of National Unity” for building mosque, chapel at Police School Minna

Nigeria ‘s 13th IGP, who also made history as the 21st CP in the Lagos State Police Command, during the first tenure of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR as Executive Governor of Lagos State,,Sir Mike Mbama Okiro, now has a brand new name of PROMOTER Of NATIONAL UNITY.

Retired Inspector-General of Police , got the well deserved commendation, Thursday, May 14th 2026 during a brief courtesy visit to the palatial and tourism-premised residential abode of Africa’s pioneer Military President, 85 years old General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, GCFR, who revolutionized the culture of military governance in Nigeria.

General Babangida, specifically praised the untiring nationalistic zeal, patriotism as well as the rare philanthropic personality development dispositions, imbued Sir Mike Mbama Okiro, in his nationwide project of building religious harmony, peaceful co-existence, tolerance, in addition to deepening national unity, through the philanthropic project tool, culminating in the renovation of the POLICE SECONDARY SCHOOL JUMA’ AT MOSQUE. Minna, Niger State.

Sir Mike Mbama Okiro, IGP retired, had on his birthday in 2025, commissioned a Catholic Worship Chapel at the POLICE SECONDARY SCHOOL, for the Christian student sub-populations, even as he has promised to be put in place a new structure for the Christian Pentecostal Congregants.

Earlier at the commissioning, the Chairman of the occasion and member Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Highness , His Royal Highness, Mallam Garba Attahiru, who graciously conferred the title of Hasken Nupe on IGP Mike Mbama Okiro rtd, while extolling his virtues, described him as a brilliantly intelligent, kind-hearted, hardworking , highly resourceful human-capital builder, who is GOD-fearing.
