DHQ confirms casualties in attack on convoy of Borno civilian relocation committee

The Defence Headquarters on Saturday said18 persons including 4 soldiers, 10 Policemen and 4 civilians were killed when suspected members of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT)/ Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) attacked the convoy of Borno state civilian relocation committee comprising Armed Forces of Nigeria, Nigeria Police Force and Civilian Joint Task Force at Barwati village.

In a statement, Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters Major General John Enenche
said the attack/ambush was, however, successfully repelled by the “gallant troops”.

Enenche said the troops on hot pursuit of the insurgents successfully recovered 3 vehicles.

He added that two of the vehicles belonging to the Nigeria Police that were earlier carted away by the terrorists during the attack and one BHT gun truck was also captured.

The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations further stated that the casualties recorded were as a result of the explosion from the multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted on the road by the terrorists.

He said the Nigerian Army had since deployed bomb and IED disposal teams in ensuring effective route, scanning and clearing the route to forestall future recurrence.
