Major General Buba emphasized that both the Constitution and the Armed Forces Act entrusted the military with the vital responsibility of safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation.

Consisting of citizens from diverse backgrounds who have pledged allegiance to defend the country, he said the armed forces operated across various regions, often placing themselves in perilous situations to uphold peace and security.

He further noted that amid the ongoing security challenges across the nation, troops were deployed in internal security operations, intervening to de-escalate and manage tense situations.

“However, the tragic incident in Okuama Community underscores the hazardous conditions faced by our gallant troops in the discharge of their duties,” he stated.

The Defence spokesperson underscored that there would be measured responses and consequences for the perpetrators of these heinous acts, reiterating the military’s commitment to uphold the rule of law, compliance with rules of engagement, and respect for human rights.

Refuting claims of reprisal attacks, the armed forces urged cooperation from community leaders and residents to assist in investigations and ensure accountability for the perpetrators.

Highlighting the unresolved dispute between Okuama and Okoloba communities as a potential contributing factor to the unrest, Major General Buba emphasized the complexity of the situation.

He urged the public to refrain from circulating videos of the incident out of respect for the fallen soldiers and their grieving families.

Major General Buba reaffirmed the military’s unwavering determination to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, even in the face of adversity.
