(UPDATED): Yoruba Nation agitators shut Osogbo

Scores of youths under the aegis of Omo Oduduwa United, on Saturday morning, stormed the streets of Osogbo, capital of Osun State, to agitate for the Yoruba nation.

The protesters assembled at November 27 bridge, Africa area, Osogbo for the protest.

They marched from the November 27 bridge through Ogo-Oluwa, Aregbe junction, Fakunle, Ola-Iya and Odi Olowo areas.

The protesters carried placards, banners chanting secession songs and distributing handbills to people along the streets.

They were heading to Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Old Garage, as of the time of filing this report.

Earlier, armed security agents had taken over strategic places in Osogbo, preventing the convergence of the protesters on Nelson Mandela freedom park.

The protesters then moved to November 27 bridge as point of convergence.

▪︎Police tighten security

Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command  tightened security in Osogbo, the state capital, to prevent breakdown of law and order, as Yoruba Nation agitators held a peaceful rally.

Osun Police Spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, on Saturday, said the agitators, under the group ‘Omo Oduduwa United’, informed the police of their rally beforehand.

Opalola said the law was not against holding a peaceful rally, and the state commissioner of police, Olawale Olokode, directed that protection and security be provided for the rally to prevent hoodlums from highjacking it.

She said the command put adequate security measures in place to prevent any form of breakdown of law and order and that police officers were with, and monitoring the rally.

Hundreds of youths under the aegis of Omo Oduduwa United, converged on Osogbo on Saturday, marching through the streets in agitation for a Yoruba Nation.

It was reported that the youths were prevented from converging at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park for their rally by armed security officers, which forced them to reconvene under the November 27 Bridge, around NECO office, Africa Area, Osogbo
