In a last-minute politucal move that is surprising and perhaps unsettling, a former governor of Anambra State and promising presidential aspirant on the platform for the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi, has dumped the PDP.
Obi also announced his withdrawal from the 2023 presidential race on the platform of the PDP.
He made this known via a letter dated May 20, 2022, and addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
The former governor, in the letter stated reasons for his withdrawal from the presidential race (see the letter).
The PDP has fixed its presidential primary election for May 28 and 29, 2022.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, was the running mate of ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2019 presidential election.
He is vying for the PDP 2023 presidential ticket alongside Atiku, former Senate Presidents, Bukola Saraki, Anyim Pius Anyim; Governors Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State.
Others are former Governors Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti State), Ovation Publisher, Dele Momodu; and Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
