The immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has been elected as the President of the 10th Senate.
Akpabio defeated a former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, to emerge as the Senate President in an election held in Abuja on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
Akpabio scored 63 votes while Yari scored 46 votes. He has been sworn in to take his seat as senate president.
The next election was that of the Deputy Senate President, which Senator Jibrin Barau from Kano in the Northwest zone clinched unopposed.
The Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly is conducting the process in the House of Repssentatives.
Hon Tajudeen Abbas, APC’s preferred candidate for the position of Speaker from Kaduna State in the Northwest zone, is primed to emerge victorious.
But Tajudeen Abbas, a former Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase and Aminu Gadji have been nominated for the election to the position of Speaker.
