A Grade ‘A’ Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan has ordered the remand of one Awalu Garba, 26, standing trial for alleged theft of N22,000 smoked fish.

Garba, whose address was not provided, when the charge was read to him, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge levelled against him.

The Court President, Mrs O.E. Owoseni ordered the defendant to be remanded in Agodi correctional facility following his inability to perfect the terms of bail, which the court granted him.

Owoseni had admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two reliable sureties, who must each provide valid means of identification.

Owoseni thereafter adjourned the matter until June 27 for hearing.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Ayeni, had informed the court that the defendant committed the crime on April 22, at 8:30 p.m, at the Fish Market in Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Ayeni said that one Abdulahi Bello had apprehended Garba when the latter was stealing some of his smoked fish and thereafter handed him over to the police at Bodija.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provision of Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 vol. ii law of Oyo State 2000.
