A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, has remanded Clinton Moses and William James to the Nigerian Correctional Service Centre for allegedly stealing bags of rice and a gas cylinder.

Magistrate Ekpeyong Inyang adjourned the case to Aug. 4 to consider a formal bail application submitted by defence counsel O.J. Ada, following his oral request in court.

According to prosecutor Simpa Ibrahim, complainant Nwachukwu John reported the incident to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police at Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Feb. 26.

The defendants are charged with criminal conspiracy, mischief, assault, and threats to life.

Ibrahim alleged that Moses, James, and their accomplices entered John’s kitchen and stole bags of rice, a gas cylinder, and other valuables.

He further claimed that the defendants assaulted the complainant’s son using bottles and stones, causing injuries.

The prosecution also stated that the accused vandalised cars parked in the compound, broke the house windows and back gate, and threatened to make the community “a living hell” for the complainant.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The offences, according to the prosecution, violated Sections 96, 263, 327, and 397 of the Penal Code.
