Court grants man N300,000 bail over N3m fraud

A 38-year-old man, Babalola Abideen, was on Monday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly defrauding a trader of N3 million.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, and obtaining property under false pretence.

Prosecutor ASP E.O. Adaraloye told the court that Abideen and others at large obtained a tricycle valued at N3 million from one David Abiodun on July 3 under a hire purchase arrangement. The defendant allegedly agreed to remit N7,000 daily but defaulted.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened Sections 319, 387, and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

Abideen pleaded not guilty. Magistrate O.O. Fadairo granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in like sum, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed, and present evidence of tax payment.

The case was adjourned till August 25 for further hearing.
