As countdown to the All Progressives Congress, APC party primary election, for the nomination of its gubernatorial candidate approaches, some party stalwarts in the state have warned of dire consequences should Mr President, Senator Bola Tinubu, impose an unpopular candidate on the people.
The group’s spokesperson said that they were aware of moves by President Tinubu, acting in collabiration with some leaders, who are using their influence in Abuja, to try to impose a particular candidate on the people, warning that, such could lead to serious antiparty that could affect the chances of winning the gubernatorial election
The group advised the National Secretariat of the APC, not to succumb to pressure from the villa and those they referred to as influential friends of Mr President to impose an unpopular candidate on the APC supporters in Ondo if the party was serious about retaining the state in the Governorship election this year
According to them, “His Excellency, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is more than qualified to run for the office of the governor having gathered sufficient experience as Deputy Governor to late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.”
The group threatened to work against the party should their preferred choice in the person of his Excellency, Governor Aiyedatiwa, was prevented from flying the party’s flag in the elections
Though, the spokesperson failed to name specific leaders, who, they claimed, were against the state governor, he hinted that those behind the plot, had turned Abuja into their homes having lost relevance in their bases.
They claimed that “some of them were recently appointed into sensitive government positions by Mr President through which they could mobilise resources to work against the governor, who, is the man that the people of Ondo want to continue as their governor.”
Meanwhile the state Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa is believed to have revved up his campaign machinery in preparation for the primary elections by setting up committees across the wards in Ondo state.
