In a bid to bolster the morale and combat-readiness of Nigerian Army personnel, the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to the welfare and well-being of soldiers and their families during his tenure.
According to Director, Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the CoAS gave the assurance while addressing troops and their families at the Nigerian Army Finance Corps West African Social Activities (WASA) event, marking the conclusion of the year 2023.
The event took place at the Headquarters Command Finance Office Parade Ground, Arakan Barracks, Apapa Lagos.
Highlighting welfare as the foundational pillar of sound administration within his Command Philosophy, General Lagbaja reassured troops that their well-being remained a top priority on his agenda for the Nigerian Army.
He pledged a continuous commitment to enhance the welfare of troops at every available opportunity.
General Lagbaja encouraged troops to anticipate visible improvements in the standard of living and accommodation across Nigerian Army barracks and cantonments in the coming year.
The CoAS affirmed his commitment to align with the stringent financial measures implemented by the president to curb wastage and revitalize the nation’s economy.
“We hope to achieve this, despite budgetary constraints, through prudent management of available resources,” stated the Army Chief.
Emphasizing that the Army Headquarters will persist in investing in programs and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and well-being of personnel, General Lagbaja assured troops that their needs would be prioritized, even in the face of fiscal challenges imposed by government policies.
Major General Adetokunbo Fayemiwo, the Chief of Account and Budget (Army) (CAB(A)), expressed gratitude to the CoAS for providing essential support to the Corps, enhancing the capacities of its personnel. Describing WASA as a platform for showcasing the rich cultural heritage of diverse tribes and tongues from the six Geo Political Zones of the country, Gen Fayemiwo acknowledged it as an opportunity for officers and soldiers to unwind after a demanding year.
Gen Fayemiwo assured the CoAS of the Corps’ continued support through efficient and prudent fiscal management, expressing unalloyed loyalty and cooperation from officers and soldiers.
Earlier in the day, the Nigerian Army Finance Corps had honored nine senior officers during a Pulling Out Parade organized to recognize retired and senior officers of the Corps on Friday, January 12, 2023.
The retired senior officers honored in the Pull-Out Parade included Maj Gen AO Adetayo (Retd), Maj Gen JE Jakko (Retd), Maj Gen AR Bakare (Retd), Maj Gen AB Adamu (Rtd), Brig Gen NL Isama (Retd), Brig Gen OF Ohunyeye (Retd), Brig Gen OA Adenuga (Retd), and Brig Gen II Adamu (Retd).
The Nigerian Army Finance Corps WASA 2023 featured rich cultural performances, a tug of war between female soldiers and soldiers’ wives, presentation of awards to outstanding soldiers, and prizes to performing cultural troupes.
