A 28-year-old woman, her two young children and husband are receiving treatment for burns after an alleged attack by her co-wife in the Hotoro area of Kano metropolis.
Police say the incident occurred late Monday night in the Mai Allo area of Hotoro quarters.
The suspect, Maryam Muhammad, is in custody at Mariri Police Division.
The victims are Firdausi Musa, 28, and her children Khadija Ya’u, 7, and Ismail Ya’u, 3.
They are being treated at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, and Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano.
Firdausi’s husband, Malam Saminu, also sustained burns while trying to rescue them.
According to Firdausi’s brother, Buhari Musa Sa’ad, the family received a distress call around 3 a.m. reporting that the four had been set ablaze.
He said Firdausi had been in the matrimonial home for less than two weeks before the attack, and the children were from her previous marriage.
A relative, Rukayya, was quoted by Daily Trust that Firdausi had complained of threats from her co-wife before the incident.
She said Firdausi left the house earlier that day but returned after her husband intervened.
The Kano State Police Command had not issued an official statement as of the time of filing this report.
