● Says Chairman, Commissioners’ inauguration historic

Clerk to the National Assembly [CNA], Kamoru Ogunlana Esq., has advised the newly-inaugurated Chairman and Commissioners in the National Assembly Service Commission [NASC] to sustain existing legacies in the Commission, especially that of appointment of top NASS bureaucrats on merit.

Ogunlana, in a goodwill message delivered at the conference hall of the Commission on Monday shortly after the swearing in of members of the Commission by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, described the inauguration as historic.

He also underscored the imperativeness of due process in the discharge of the Commission’s other functions such as discipline and promotion of staff members.

He said due process tended to strengthen staff members’ trust in the civil service, National Assembly management, and documented evidence for reference in line with international standards.

The CNA further stressed the importance of high-level public service tenets of accountability, responsibility, and responsiveness to core mandates delivery.

While describing the occasion as crucial, he said three months after his assumption of duty, he was just attending a major programme that was worthy of approbation and celebration, given its historic nature.

THE CONCLAVE reports that this is the first in the history of the NASC that a Nigerian from the southern part of the country has been appointed as chairman.

The CNA promised the NASC Management Team a harmonious working relationship.

Ogunlana said the appointment of new Chairman and Commissioners was strategic even as it was a testament to their individual accomplishments, and commitment to public service.

He assured the Commission’s new management team of the full co-operation of the National Assembly management towards achieving success.

He, however, pleaded with the Commission to carry the National Assembly management along on key decision-making.
