Osun State Commissioner for Ministry of Works And Transport, Engr Remi Omowaiye has said that the citizens’ needs assessment of the state is the yardstick for the distribution of infrastructure projects across the nooks and crannies of the state.
The Commissioner also stated that the “Thank-You-Tour” of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola after being sworn in as the Governor of the State had also gone a long way in helping to deliver the direct needs of the people.
The Commissioner spoke while making a paper presentation on the trends in, and framework for policy and programme implementation in the state of Osun.
On the occasion which took the form of an interactive session with Senior Executive Course 43, 2021 of the National Institute For Policy and Strategic Studies(NIPSS), Kuru currently on a study tour of Osun, Omowaiye said projects were carefully chosen and embarked upon based on the needs of the people of the state.
The Commissioner who explained that the present administration had completed over 264km of road projects across the state said the present government was keen on taking development round the state because of the belief that no society can grow without sustained infrastructural development.
He added that that the intervention of the Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in the overall infrastructure development of the state was unprecedented.
He said, “There has been no controversy in terms of our spread or distribution of infrastructural projects across the state. This is because we are carefully doing exactly what the people has asked for by themselves through the Citizens Needs Assessment that was conducted round the state.
“The “Thank You Tour” embarked on by our amiable Governor is also going a long way in helping us to give our people what they actually want. The Governor went to them to thank them for their votes, and in the process asked for their needs which was documented and it is based on this that we are implementing projects as the Ministry of Works.”
Engr Omowaiye at the interactive session also told participants that the state government had delibrately made most of the road projects to be carried out by direct labour because of the need to boost the state’s economy and give officers at the Ministry of Works the needed confidence and experience.
“Most of our jobs are done through direct labour to save money and build the confidence of our Civil Servants in the state, we know the implication of this for our future and the economy of this state”. He stressed.
