Chief Chekwas Okorie, the Oje Ozi Ndigbo, has exposed an alleged plot to undermine the All Progressives FrandAlliance [APGA].
He addressed the press at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) headquarters in Utako, Abuja, unveiling what he described as a deliberate strategy by Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to destabilize the All-Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Chief Okorie highlighted that the Supreme Court of Nigeria had unequivocally recognized Chief Edozie Njoku and the National Working Committee (NWC) elected during APGA’s National Convention on May 31, 2019, in Owerri, Imo State, as the legitimate leaders of the party.
He said Chief Victor Oye, backed by Anambra State Governor Professor Soludo, allegedly resorted to various underhanded tactics to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from honoring this judgment.
According to Okorie, in a bid to enforce the Supreme Court’s ruling from March 24, 2023, members of the NWC pursued legal action at the FCT High Court.
He said during this process, Chief Oye, purportedly acting with Soludo’s support, sought a counter judegment from an Anambra High Court to hold an unsanctioned convention, contravening both Supreme Court and trial court orders.
Chief Okorie said despite subsequent rulings by the FCT High Court and the Court of Appeal upholding the legitimacy of Chief Njoku’s leadership, Chief Oye and INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu were found guilty of contempt. Professor Soludo, however, has been accused of continuing efforts to undermine the party’s unity, allegedly boasting of influence over both the Supreme Court and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to overturn the established judgments.
Chief Okorie expressed grave concerns over these actions, urging well-meaning Nigerians and international entities to intervene and uphold democratic integrity.
He reiterated APGA’s commitment to reconciliation and unity under Chief Njoku’s leadership, warning against any attempts to dismantle the party for personal political gain.
