Tragedy Strikes: NUJ FCT Council mourns six journalists killed in Gombe road accident
Seven journalists die in Gombe auto crash

Report of a devastating road accident that claimed the lives of six journalists in Gombe State, Nigeria, leaving the journalism community in shock and grief, has been confirmed.

The journalists, who worked with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and other media organizations, were travelling in a bus that crashed on the Billiri-Gombe road after one of the tyres burst.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council expressed profound shock and deepest sorrow over the tragic incident, describing the deceased journalists as “shining beacons of truth, courage, and commitment to the noble profession of journalism”.

The council, in a statement by its Chairperson, Comrade Grace Ike, extended its condolences to the bereaved families, the NUJ Gombe State Council, and the entire NUJ family, praying for divine comfort and strength during this period of unimaginable grief.

The NUJ FCT Council and other media organizations have paid tribute to the deceased journalists, praising their dedication to the pursuit of truth and professionalism.

The NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, described the incident as a “devastating blow to the journalism community” and called for improved road safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Recall that the accident occurred on Monday evening when the journalists were returning from a wedding ceremony in Gombe South Senatorial District.

Seven people lost their lives, while four others sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, stating that a total of 11 people were involved in the lone accident.
