Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has commended the Finnish judicial system for convicting Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafra separatist, emphasising that those funding terrorism will face justice no matter where they hide.
The Päijät-Häme District Court in Lahti, Finland, sentenced Ekpa to a six-year prison term for terrorism-related crimes.
The court determined that Ekpa was guilty of engaging in terrorist activities linked to his efforts to revive an independent Biafra state in Nigeria, which briefly existed in the late 1960s.
In a statement released by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, General Musa hailed the verdict as a pivotal moment in the worldwide fight against terrorism.
“This ruling is a significant milestone in our collective battle against violent extremism,” Musa stated.
He said that it sent a clear message: “No one who incites or finances terrorism against Nigeria will find a safe haven anywhere in the world.”
Musa lauded the collaborative efforts of Nigeria’s security forces, intelligence agencies, and diplomatic corps, whose meticulous work provided critical evidence for Ekpa’s conviction.

He called on citizens to stay vigilant and support ongoing operations to counter insurgency and separatist violence, reinforcing Nigeria’s resolve to maintain national security.
