Speculations have been rife in Abuja, the seat of Federal government, that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele, has withdrawn from the race for the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential ticket.
These feelers came in just as a Court in Delta was reported to have restrained the Board of the CBN and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from barring him from contesting in 2023 presidential primary election and the general election.
Emefiele had met with President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday evening at the Presidentisl Villa over his presidential aspiration.
The CBN governor did not disclosed details of his meeting with the President, but told the State House correspondents to expect good news soon.
He had also mocked Nigerians who were caring fir his resignation in outright and brazen condemnation of his presidential aspiration while still holding his office as CBN governor, saying they were having heart attacks and that they would have heart attacks.
But sundry feelers on Friday pointed in the direction of a volte face.
The nation’s apex banker has now reportedly jettisoned his 2023 presidential ambition, according to information doing the rounds on Abuja.
However, Emefiele has yet to formally confirm that he has withdrawn from the significant presidential race.
Report has it that Emefiele decided to withdraw from the presidential race and intended to continue as the apex bank chief in accordance with his discussions with President Buhari on Thursday.
Some media organs, including the authoritative BusinessDay, said emphatically that “Emefiele’s withdrawal from the race came weeks after speculations were rife that he would contest for the 2023 presidency under the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
