As part of concerted effort to contain the spread of the global pandemic in Nigeria, Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, has announced the formation of a COVID-19 coalition to be driven by the private sector.
Emefiele told a select group of journalists at a press conference in Lagos that to qualify for membership of the funding committee, an individual or organisation would be required to contribute a minimum of N1billion.
He said this would enable the huge contributors to be involved in the monitoring and evaluation of the expenditure of the money on the containment of the global pandemic.
He however, said every Nigerian was qualified to contribute to the COVID-19 fund, stressing that no amount was considered too small in the circumstance.
Emefiele said that the emergency fund would have to be mobilised within the next two weeks if the effort was to be meaningful.
He stated that there was no time to waste while urging for unity of purpose in the onerous task of containing further spread of the COVID-19 contagion in the country.
