A former member of the House of Representatives who once represented Ika Federal Constituency, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, is dead.
Cairo was aged 65, having been born on September 8, 1958 in Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.
He slumped and died on Wednesday night while watching the semi final match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
An unconfirmed report said that Ojougboh died when a penalty was awarded against Nigeria that resulted in the South Africa’s equalizer in the 90th minute of the pulsating match.
Cairo was a medical doctor turned politician and businessman. He was a high chief of Ndi Anioma Kingdom.
He was once a personal assistant to the late Chief Tony Anenih as Minister of Works from 1999 to 2001. He also served in an executive position at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
He was very active in the politics of Delta State.
The Publisher of THE CONCLAVE, Sufuyan Ojeifo, expressed shock at the sudden transition of Cairo Ojougboh with whom he shared a special relationship with the late Chief Anenih.
According to Sufuyan Ojeifo, “At 9.40 am on Wednesday, Cairo Ojougboh had curiously sent back to me THE CONCLAVE news updates which I sent to him every day. It was the first that he had done that. On reflections, I believe he had certain premonitions and was perhaps trying to touch base with me ahead of his eternal departure. I should have called him back. I am diminished by his death. He defined his eon with the magnitude of his politics. He was a daring person. May his soul rest in peace.”
