As Nigerians are patiently expecting the formation of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, it has been said that in forming the cabinet, he may form a Government of National Interest.
Making this known while speaking on Arise News Television’s programme, Prime Time, on Tuesday night, the Publisher of THEWILL Newspaper and Downtown Magazine, Prince Austyn Ogannah, said feelers from people close to the president, indicated that Tinubu was going to form a cabinet of young, energetic people, “who have the capacity to help deliver on his mandate and who will help him secure victory in the 2027.”
The publisher further said that Tinubu, in forming the cabinet, would have to fulfil some political IOUs, by compensating those who helped him in different areas of the country during the last election.
Speaking on the topic: ‘Tinubu’s Cabinet: The Expectations’, Ogannah said, “Since Tinubu assumed office, we have been waiting for the Ministerial list. Although it is just a month, but with the speed he has displayed, we have been expecting…
“From the feelers, we are going to have people who have the capacity to help him deliver on his mandate.
”He will have to fulfil some political IOUs from those that helped him win election in their areas. We know for someone like Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, he is seriously being considered for a ministerial position. This is because President Tinubu is already looking at 2027. With a man like Kwankwaso on his side, Kano is for him, so also is one or two states in the North West.
“We understand how Tinubu thinks; we understand that some of the people that will be in his government are those that will help him in the coming election.”
On composition of the cabinet, Ogannah further said rather than call it a Government of National Unity, he will prefer calling it a Government of National Interest.
“We can say elections are over, but election is not over because some people are still in court and until that process plays out, we are still in election mode because anything can still happen.
“But knowing how Tinubu thinks, having talked to a couple of people who are close to him, Tinubu has already forgotten about 2023 elections. His mind is fixed on the next election”, Ogannah said.
Tinubu was declared winner of the fiercely contested February presidential election, whose controversial outcome is being challenged at the election tribunal by the two main opposition, Peter Obi of the populist Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the conservative Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
