The Defence Headquarters on Thursday exonerated soldiers of its counter-insurgency troops in the North East (Operation Lafiya Dole) from the alleged illicit fishing and farming activities in Borno State.

Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters, Major General John Enenche, while presenting general updates on Armed Forces of Nigeria operations from 6 August to 12 August 2020, said the attention of the Defence Headquarters was drawn to the alleged activities of troops in Baga, regarding dealings in livestock and farming.

He said in line with military procedures, it was investigated and found to be baseless.

Enenche said the full details would be made available at the next briefing.

Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, further stated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria had continued to sustain the tempo in the fight against terrorism in the zone with attendant successes.

He said there had been a reduction in the number of incidences recorded from the zone, within the period under review.

Enenche said the troops with overwhelming superiority over the criminal elements had drastically degraded the operational capabilities of the BHT/ISWAP elements.

He said troops had also sustained the clearance operations, aggressive patrols and Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance missions, sustained air offensive operations as well as artillery and aerial bombardments in the theatre of operation.
