SINCE the news of an alleged complicity of super cop Abba Kyari when the Federal Bureau for Investigation declared him wanted for collecting a bribe from Ramon Abbas a.k.a Hushpuppi, the Inspector-General of Police set up a panel to probe the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police.
It was established that in his capacity as the then Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), he reported directly to the IGP and protocol demanded that he ought to first inform him before carrying out any investigation.
Kyari went ahead to investigate Victor Kelly Chibuzo without first getting an approval from the IG which amounts to a professional misconduct. Kyari never collected a dime from Hushpuppi. The reason why Kyari may have acted without approval was because the complaint bordered on a threat to life.
It was also established that Hushpuppi said nothing against Kyari. The FBI concluded and took their decision based on what they saw on Hushpuppi’s phone which was an ongoing sting investigation after Vincent confessed that they both committed the fraud. The FBI concluded based on what they saw on the suspect’s phone without hearing from the Nigerian Police.
If Kyari is to be sanctioned it will be on the basis of the established professional misconduct and not for bribe taking.
