Borno State Government has equipped local hunters and vigilance groups to take on menacing Boko Haram in the state.
The government on Tuesday donated eight Toyota Hilux vehicles to local hunters and vigilance group in Hawul local government area where insurgents looted and destroyed four communities on Boxing Day.
The governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, had during his assessment tour of level of destruction on Sunday promised to equip local hunters and vigilantes against the terrorist group.

The governor, in fulfillment of his promise, on Tuesday, presented eight Toyota Hilux vehicles and other accessories requested by vigilance groups in the area.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, made the presentation of the patrol vehicles and other accessories to the leaders of the vigilance groups in Azare town, the headquarters of Hawul local government.
The governor said Borno state government would not relent or shy away from its constitutional responsibilities of protecting the life and property of the people and would continue to remain focussed in ensuring that total peace returned to the state.
He however appealed to the people in the area to cooperate with each other and assist the security personnel with useful information on any suspicious person or movement they noticed, assuring them that the state government would continue to strengthen security operations in the state.
He commended all the security operatives in the area for their efforts in the fight against insurgency in the local government, adding that government would continue to support them.
He promised that a committee for the renovation of destroyed facilities and residential houses, shops and police station would soon arrive the area with a view to commencing work.
The chairman of Hawul local government, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan, in a vote of thanks, praised the governor for fulfilling his promise to the vigilance groups.
He noted that the governor gave more than requested as eight vehicles were given against the six requested.
