Bayelsa Queens have risen to the top of the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership Super Six playoffs following their 2-0 win over Remo Stars Ladies at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.
The Prosperity Girls dominated the match, scoring two goals within the first 25 minutes.
Chinwe Akabike opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a precise finish after being given a through ball. Sefiat Idris doubled the lead just 13 minutes later, beating Charlotte Adjei in goal with a well-placed shot. Despite Remo Stars’ efforts to mount a comeback, Bayelsa Queens held firm.
This victory puts Bayelsa Queens at the top of the table with seven points, tied on points with Nasarawa Amazons but ahead on goal difference. Remo Stars Ladies suffered their first loss and now sit third with six points. Nasarawa Amazons finished the day in second spot also with seven points after they pipped Rivers Angels 2-1.
Bayelsa Queens’ Technical Adviser, Whyte Ogbonda, expressed confidence in his team’s chances. “I’m confident that we will be going home with the Super Six trophy,” he said. Bayelsa Queens’ next challenge is a crucial encounter with Edo Queens.
“We’re confident we’ll bring the Super Six trophy to Yenagoa,” said Bayelsa Queens’ Technical Adviser Whyte Ogbonda, praising the Bayelsa State Government’s support as a key motivator.

Bayelsa now face Edo Queens in a high-stakes Matchday 4 encounter on Thursday at 9 a.m., where a win could edge them closer to NWFL glory.
