The Technical Assistants to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri has resigned their membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), pledging their unwavering support for the governor’s recent exit from the party.

The announcement was made during a press briefing at the office of the Special Adviser on Political Matters, Annex 111, in Yenagoa.

The resignations followed Governor Diri’s departure from the PDP on October 15, 2025, a move that has sparked widespread reactions across Bayelsa and beyond.

In a statement signed by Hon. Ogidi Ben Bara, Chairman of the Technical Assistants Forum, and Hon. Bibobara Kitchen, Secretary General, the aides described their decision as a demonstration of loyalty and solidarity with the governor.

“After careful consultations with stakeholders, we have resolved to resign our membership of the PDP to align with His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri, in his bold decision to chart a new political course for the progress of Bayelsa State,” the statement read.

The aides praised Diri’s leadership, citing his commitment to peace, unity, and sustainable development as the driving force behind their decision.

They lauded his governance record as inclusive and development-focused, expressing confidence in his vision for the state’s future.

While the group did not disclose whether they would join another political party, they emphasized their commitment to supporting Diri’s political direction.

“We stand firmly with the governor as he pursues a path focused on the collective good of Bayelsa,” the statement noted.

Diri’s exit from the PDP, under which he was elected governor, has stirred speculation about his next political move.

Analysts suggest he may be exploring new alliances or a different platform ahead of future elections.

The collective resignation of his aides, who play key roles in policy implementation, underscores the depth of support for Diri within his administration and signals a potential realignment of political forces in Bayelsa.

The aides concluded their statement with a pledge to continue contributing to the state’s development, expressing optimism about Bayelsa’s future under Diri’s leadership.

“We remain committed to the progress and prosperity of Bayelsa State,” they affirmed.
