Governor Douye Diri will lead state officials in receiving the festival torch for the 2nd Niger Delta Games on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
The torch’s arrival coincides with the sixth anniversary of Governor Diri’s inauguration as state leader.
Governor Diri will be accompanied by Commissioner for Sports Daniel Igali and Director of the Bayelsa State Sports Council Andrew Aye to receive the torch during a morning ceremony.
Chief Itiako Ikpokpo, Chairman/CEO of Dunamis Icon Limited, the project consultant for the Games, will lead the organisers.
The torch relay and upcoming Games aim to foster unity across the Niger Delta region and uncover emerging sporting talents.
The second edition of the Niger Delta Games, Nigeria’s first regional multi-sport festival, will take place from February 20 to February 26, 2026, hosted in Edo State. Participating teams are expected to arrive on February 19.

The event, organised by Dunamis Icon Limited and supported by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), promotes youth empowerment, peace, grassroots sports, and talent discovery beyond the region’s oil resources.
Bayelsa, the defending champion from the inaugural edition, is preparing to compete strongly.
