The Bayelsa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing all ongoing infrastructure projects initiated by the “Prosperity Administration” before the end of its tenure.

This was disclosed by the state commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mrs. Kuko Obiyai in Yenagoa during the transparency briefing for the months of May, June, and July 2025.

Obiyai emphasised the administration’s dedication to public accountability and transparency, core principles of Governor Douye Diri’s leadership.

She highlighted key projects, including the nine-storey Secretariat buildings, an international-standard FIFA stadium, the Nembe-Brass road, the Yenagoa-Oporoma road, and the Ekeremor-Agge road, assuring the public that the government has budgeted and planned for their timely completion.

Obiyai called on the media to promote the administration’s programs and policies through balanced and thorough reporting, particularly as the electioneering season approaches.

She urged journalists to avoid spreading unverified claims and to focus on developmental journalism that highlights Bayelsa’s achievements. “We must work together to protect the state’s reputation and celebrate its progress,” she said, stressing the importance of collaboration between the government and media to foster a positive image for Bayelsa.

The commissioner also encouraged citizens to refrain from rumor-mongering and to focus on the state’s accomplishments, underscoring the shared goal of building a prosperous Bayelsa.

In a financial overview, the Technical Adviser on Treasury, Revenue, and Accounts, Mr. Timipre Seipulou, reported that the state’s coffers held a balance of over N165.8 billion as of July 2025, after accounting for recurrent and capital expenditures. Capital projects consumed N94.8 billion in May, N35 billion in June, and N79 billion in July, while recurrent expenditures were N7.3 billion, N6.4 billion, and N6.3 billion for the respective months.

Seipulou noted that the upcoming Tax Reform Law is expected to positively impact the state’s revenue once implemented.

The briefing underscored the administration’s focus on fiscal responsibility and infrastructure development as it works toward completing its agenda for Bayelsa.
