Friendship turned fatal in Rinjin Gura village on Monday morning after a 25-year-old man allegedly shot his friend dead with a dane gun during a disagreement.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Jabir Yusuf, 25, in connection with the killing of Hassan Mohamed in Zalau Ward, Toro Local Government Area.

According to police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Monday.

A distress report was received at the Rishi Divisional Police Headquarters that Yusuf had shot Mohamed in the neck with a locally-made dane gun.
Operatives from Gumau Division immediately responded and rushed the victim to Toro General Hospital.
But it was too late. A doctor on duty confirmed Mohamed dead on arrival.
His body was later identified, documented, and released to the family for burial according to Islamic rites.

Police said Yusuf was arrested shortly after the shooting. The dane gun allegedly used in the killing was also recovered as an exhibit.
The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condoled with the deceased’s family and ordered a thorough investigation into what led to the shooting.
He also warned residents against the unlawful possession and careless handling of firearms.
“Anyone found violating the law will face prosecution,” Aliyu said.
The Command further urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to help police prevent crime and protect lives across the state.
What began as a quarrel between friends has now left one dead, one in custody, and a family in mourning.
