Barcelona secured their 29th LaLiga crown with a 2-0 Clasico win over Real Madrid on Sunday, clinching the title with three games to spare.
Goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres in the first half gave Hansi Flick’s side an unassailable 14-point lead over second-placed Madrid, condemning Los Blancos to a second straight trophyless season.
It was only the second time LaLiga has been decided directly by a Clasico. Real Madrid previously won their first title in 1932 after a draw with Barcelona.
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong said the victory felt more special given the opponent. “This title is more special for winning it at home against Madrid, now we have to enjoy it with the fans,” he said. “We have been the best team in Spain – of course we also want to win the Champions League, that’s the objective.”
Coach Hansi Flick led the team despite learning earlier in the day that his father had passed away.
“It has been a tough day. It started in the morning and I’ll never forget this day,” Flick said. “I’m really proud of this team. Thank you to everyone for fighting.”
Barcelona remain on course to match the league record of 100 points and can complete a perfect home season if they beat Real Betis in their final home game.
Madrid now face a summer of uncertainty, with former coach José Mourinho among those linked to a potential return.
