The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is scheduled to arrive in Oyo State tomorrow, Thursday, January 19, 2023 in continuation of his nationwide presidential electioneering.
He will be in Ibadan to address party faithful on the premises of Mapo Hall, a traditional facility for big political rallies.
A report by the Newspot said that before Atiku headsed for Mapo Hall, he would be the guest of the foremost Yoruba group – The Southwest Development Stakeholders Forum at Jogor Centre off Liberty Stadium road in Ibadan at 10 am.
The Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde is expected to lead the PDP Stakeholders in Oyo State to welcome Atiku.
”Seyi Makinde will not make that mistake to stay away. To do that will amount to political harakiri ” One of the party leaders said.
“We are not going to walk into APC suicide minefield. We are too smart for that. Makinde is enjoying 100 percent support from the people of Oyo State, ” Ishola Taofik one of the PDP supporters declared.
Makinde is a member of the G-5 governors in the PDP fighting for justice. Their position is that all the national offices should not be domiciled in the north.
They have continued to insist that the National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu should resign so that the position could be devolved yo the South.
Ayu has continued to rebuf the move to have him resign.
The G-5 governors have threatened that they might not back Atiku for the presidency in the February 25 poll.
The group had indicated that it would announced a preferred candidate it would support fir the topmost job in the country. Governor Nyesom Wike had dropped the hint in December last year that the announcement would made in January 2023.
The significant announcement is expected to crystallise in the next thirteen days.
Meanwhile members of the G-5 including Givernor Makinde are neckdeep in a political gerrymandering of sorts.
