Troops of the 312 Artillery Regiment, 1 Division Nigerian Army, have arrested a civilian suspected of impersonating a retired senior military officer in Kaduna, in what the Army described as a proactive move to protect public trust in the Armed Forces.
The suspect was picked up about 9:50 a.m. on June 11, 2026, by troops deployed at Strike Force Base Sabo, Sector 1 Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
He was allegedly impersonating Major General AT Ibrahim (Rtd) while interacting with civilians.

According to the Army, the suspect posed as the retired general to gain undue access and influence.
He was immediately detained after soldiers on duty noticed inconsistencies in his claims and demanded proper identification, which he could not provide.
Preliminary investigations are ongoing. The Army said the suspect will be handed over to appropriate civil authorities for further investigation and prosecution after the initial inquiry is concluded.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on impersonation and other acts that undermine the credibility of the military institution.
Officials noted that impostors often use fake military identities to defraud unsuspecting citizens, extort money, or gain access to restricted areas.
“Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals claiming military status without proper identification,” the Army stated.
It assured citizens that decisive action will continue against anyone exploiting the name and reputation of the Armed Forces for unlawful purposes.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which covers the North West, has intensified checks on suspected impostors alongside its broader mandate to tackle banditry and other criminal activities in Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina and adjoining states.
