WINDHOEK, Namibia – The African Public Relations Association, APRA, and the Namibian Press Agency, NAMPA, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen collaboration in public relations practice, capacity development, and research across Africa.
The agreement, signed this week in Windhoek, formalizes a partnership that both organizations say will enhance professional standards, promote ethical communication, and equip PR practitioners with tools to respond to the continent’s evolving media and digital landscape.
Under the MoU, APRA and NAMPA will jointly organize training programs, workshops, and forums targeting government communicators, corporate PR teams, and media professionals. The partnership will also focus on research and knowledge sharing around strategic communication, crisis management, and the role of public relations in governance and development.
Speaking at the signing, APRA President said the collaboration with NAMPA reflects the association’s commitment to strengthening PR practice at national and regional levels. “Effective communication is central to development, governance, and nation-building. This partnership with NAMPA will help build a stronger pipeline of skilled communicators who understand Africa’s unique context,” he stated.
NAMPA’s Chief Executive Officer described the MoU as a strategic step toward bridging the gap between journalism and public relations. “NAMPA, as Namibia’s national news agency, recognizes that credible communication requires strong partnerships between media and PR professionals. This agreement will create platforms for shared learning and best practice,” the CEO noted.
Key areas of cooperation outlined in the MoU include:
1. Capacity building – Joint training and certification programs for PR and media practitioners.
2. Research and thought leadership – Studies on communication trends, media influence, and public perception in Africa.
3. Professional standards – Advocacy for ethical communication and adherence to global PR standards.
4. Networking and forums – Co-hosted conferences and dialogues to connect practitioners, policymakers, and scholars.

APRA said the partnership aligns with its broader mandate to professionalize public relations across Africa, while NAMPA noted that the collaboration will reinforce its role in providing accurate, balanced information and supporting communication excellence in Namibia and beyond.
Both institutions indicated that implementation of the MoU will begin immediately, with the first joint capacity-building program expected before the end of 2026.
The signing was witnessed by senior officials of APRA, NAMPA, and representatives from Namibia’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.
